SAR Data Center : ProposalsStudent Proposal Guidelines

The SAR Data Center provides an opportunity for students and professors to access SAR data for class projects and theses by submitting a short proposal to the ASF User Support Office. This opportunity applies only to ERS-1, ERS-2, JERS-1, and RADARSAT-1 data currently in the SAR Data Center catalog. The catalog can be searched by using the URSA interface.
There are limits on the number of data products that can be obtained through this process. The maximum number of Detected images allowed is 50 and the maximum number of Level 0 or Complex products is 16. If more data is required, a NASA 2-page proposal will have to be submitted.

The following information will need to be included in the proposal submitted to the ASF User Support Office:

  • Contact Information
  • Explanation of the project
  • Data requirements of the project which should include a list of the SAR Data Center granules determined from the catalog
  • School affiliation
  • Course information - if applicable
  • Professor/Instructor name and contact information

Please submit the proposal using our online form. We will verify the information through contact with the professor/teacher. If the proposal is approved, ASF staff will order the data and provide ftp links to the processed products.

You will be required to sign a SDC research agreement stipulating the limitations on data use.

An electronic copy of the final project should be submitted to ASF for potential display on the ASF website as a resource for other students.

Please contact ASF User Support with any questions or concerns.
