Glaciers can surge, gallop, grind valleys and mountains into powder, and even support delicate ice worms. They are an indicator of global climate changes and will aid scientists in determining whether global warming or another ice age will be the weather broadcast of the next century. So stay tuned!

Fly By Alaskan Glaciers!

SAR images © ESA, Mosaic Produced by Rick Guritz of ASF

Over 800 ERS-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images, obtained from the Alaska SAR Facility, created this nearly seamless mosaic of Alaska. Using synthetic aperture radar imagery from the mosaic above and the resources of the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (ARSC), computer-generated fly-bys of Alaskan glaciers are coming soon!
