Glacier Power is an Earth Sciences curriculum supplement for use primarily by middle school teachers to lay a foundation in glaciology. Produced by the Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) in collaboration with glaciologists, local scientists, teachers, students and artists. Glacier Power combines photographs and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery with ice worm and woolly mammoth cartoon characters to teach students about glacier dynamics.
Glacier Power activities encourage students to answer questions about what they have learned after reading selected modules. Students can access their woolly mammoth and ice worm study partners if they need help with their glacier vocabulary, or if they become stumped by a question. With its cartoon characters and a theme that fashions students into glacier detectives, Glacier Power is a fun and interactive introduction to glaciology.
