SAR Data CenterNASA 2 Page Proposal Guidelines

Please provide a one to two page description of your project for which you plan to utilize
SAR Data Center data. A proposal is required for access to archived RADARSAT-1, ERS-1, ERS-2, and JERS-1 data and to request new observations by ERS-2.

No funding is available through this mechanism to support data analysis, although data processing
costs at the Alaska Satellite Facility may be covered. The project proposal should be submitted
directly to NASA HQ at the address provided at the end of these guidelines. Proposal objectives
must be consistent with those outlined in table 2.1 of NASA's Science Mission Directorate Science Plan.

The outline below indicates the information required for project approval. Please contact ASF User Services if you need any assistance while preparing your proposal.

1. Principal Investigator

Please include your name, affiliation, full mailing address, telephone number,
fax number, and e-mail addresses that will allow us to contact you.

2. Title of Project

The name of the project you are proposing.

3. Co-Investigators

Please list any co-principal investigators following guidelines in (1) above.

4. Support

Identify your source of support.

5. Objective of Research

Briefly describe the overall objectives and goals for the project. In the objective please
relate the research to the goals of NASA's Science Mission Directorate Science Plan.

6. Background/History of the Study

Briefly describe the background of the project.

7. Approach to the Study

Briefly describe the overall approach for the project, including the geographic areas, seasons, and /or
other unique aspects of the project.

8. Information to be Derived

Describe the product(s) and/or information you anticipate deriving from ASF data.

9. Other Data Sets of Importance

Please identify any other data sets that you plan to use in conjunction with this investigation.

10. Data Requirements

10.1) Archived Data

  1. Description of Study Area:
    • Location (center and/or bounding latitude, longitude coordinates)
    • Size of study area
    • Shape of study area
  2. Number of frames/datatakes required
  3. ASF Data Products Required -
    Please list the ASF standard products you require, including:
    • Type(s) of products

12. Deliverables

As a condition of project approval, the Principal Investigator is expected to provide ASF with three (3)
copies of all publications resulting from the use of ASF data. In addition, a brief report (one to two pages)
of the results of this project is to be submitted to ASF within 30 days of the completion of the project.

13. Relevant Publications

Include a short bibliography of publications germane to the proposed study.
