Eagle River

Location - Psalm Lake

The Eagle River study site was on Psalm Lake, which is actually in Birchwood, about 10 minutes drive north of Eagle River. The lake is located on the 160-acre (65-hectare) Birchwood Camp, which belongs to the Alaska Missionary Conference of the United Methodist Church. Psalm Lake has an area of 35 acres (14-hectares) and its coordinates are 61.382°N, 149.564°W.


Surrounded by trees, Psalm Lake is overlooked by the Chugach Mountains to the east.

People

The Eagle River/Psalm Lake study site was run by Kim Bautista and her 5th grade students at Ravenwood Elementary School. Kim has taught at Ravenwood since 2002 and prior to that she taught for two years at Creekside Elementary School in Anchorage. Originally from North Carolina, Kim taught in Florida for 16 years before moving to Alaska.


As you enter the parking lot at Ravenwood Elementary School, Eagle River, you see this sign with Tlingit raven symbols.
