The AADN was established by ASF in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to support the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s (JAXA) Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) mission. JAXA launched ALOS in January 2006 with a planned 3-year mission life. The ALOS mission ceased operations on April 22, 2011.
The AADN was one of four ALOS Data Nodes working in cooperation with JAXA through the ALOS Project Implementation Plan. The other three nodes were operated by JAXA, the European Space Agency, and Geosciences Australia.
Representing users in the Americas, the AADN provided ALOS data from its two optical sensors and one synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor to customers in North, South, and Central America.
The AADN ceased operations on March 31, 2011.
