The 3rd ALOS Joint PI Symposium is scheduled for November 9-13, 2009, at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa, located on the Big Island of Hawai'i, in Kona, Hawai'i. This meeting is hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) as part of ASF's ongoing operation of the Americas ALOS Data Node (AADN). The AADN is one of four data nodes, along with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the European Space Agency (ESA), and Geoscience Australia (GA).
Objectives
The Symposium will be the third in the series of ALOS joint PI symposia. The symposia are designed to be an opportunity for ALOS scientists and researchers from around the world to meet and exchange information on the science being done with ALOS data. The attendees will have an opportunity to discuss their research as well as visit nearby volcanoes, seismic zones, and rainforests. The first symposium was hosted by JAXA and held in Kyoto, Japan, at the historic Kyoto Convention Center, which hosted the first meetings on what would become the Kyoto Accord and Protocols. The second symposium was hosted by ESA and was held at the Hilton Rhodes Resort in Rhodes, Island, Greece.
Participation
The event is open to accepted PIs, Co-Is, and representatives of the four Data Nodes (AADN, JAXA, ESA, GA) and the Asian sub-node: Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA).
Language and Fees
The official language of the Symposium is English. No participation fees will be charged, however, conference registration is required. Participants are expected to finance their own travel and accommodation expenses.
