African Rain Forest Mosaic CD

This three CD set contains detailed images of Africa's rain forests in 1996-1997. 3893 full resolution JERS-1 SAR images were used to produce the mosaic tiles contained in this CD-ROM set. There are 41 tiles, divided on 3 CD-ROMs (15+11+15). Each tile is typically some 5 deg x 5 deg in latitude and longitude, consisting of 100 or so JERS-1 scenes. Adjacent mosaic tiles fit together without overlap.

Amazon Mosaic CD

This four CD set contains data from the JERS-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) of the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA); in particular, radar images of South America. The data have been "mosaicked" into mosaic tiles; each of which consists of about 50 JERS-1 scenes. The data were acquired between September and December 1995 (low flood season for the river) and between May and July of 1996. This data set constitutes the first-ever high resolution and single season coverage of the entire Amazon river basin and is made possible by the cloud penetrating properties of the radar sensor. The geographic coverage of each disk (A, B, C, and D) is indicated both on the disk artwork, and on the pocket holding the disks. This is a "web-based" CD-ROM where users are expected to view images and documentation with their web browser.

Boreal North America Mosaic DVD

ERS-1 SAR mosaics of boreal North America (Alaska and Canada) are now available on DVD-ROM. The DVD-ROM contains winter and summer JERS-1 SAR mosaics assembled under the North American component of the Global Boreal Forest Mapping (GBFM) Project. Imagery of boreal North America, extending from Northern Alaska to the Northeastern US, was acquired during acquisition campaigns between 1997 and 1998. Summer 1998 and winter 1997/1998 imagery are included in this volume. Backscatter and texture products are provided as complete summer and winter mosaics at both 500 meter and 2 km resolution. 100 meter resolution backscatter data are also provided as tiles of about 50 JERS-1 scenes each. Two complete data sets are provided. The first set is centered in Canada and covers the boreal North America region (Alaska and Canada). The second set is centered in Alaska and covers Alaska.

Central America and Pantanal Mosaic CD

This 100-meter resolution dataset contains detailed images of Central America's rain forests from July and August 1996 and South America's Pantanal region from February 1997. The data have been "mosaicked" into mosaic tiles; each of which consists of about 50 JERS-1 scenes. Almost 1000 full resolution JERS-1 SAR images were used to produce the mosaic tiles comprising the the Central America and Pantanal mosaics. Each tile is typically 5 deg x 5 deg in latitude and longitude. In addition, gif imagery of topography and slope from the GTOPO30 data set, are also included.

Insular South-East Asia and Papua New Guinea

This disc contains information about the GRFM project and about the JERS-1 SAR image products on this (SEA-2) CD-ROM set. A www browser is required for display. This disc also features SAR mosaics at 500 m & 2 km resolution, covering all of South-East Asia, contained on both the SEA-1 (Mainland SE-Asia) and SEA-2 (Insular SE-Aisa & PNG) CD-ROM sets. These mosaics can be viewed using either a www browser or standard image processing software.

Mainland South-East Asia Rain Forest Mosaic CD

This CD set comprises the mainland part of South-East Asia, including Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, West (Peninsular) Malaysia and Singapore. Sections of southern China and north-east India are also included. The mosaics depict the region during the predominantly dry season in Jan./Feb. 1997 and during the rainy season in August 1998. The mosaics have a 100-meter resolution and were created from nearly 4,000 full-resolution images.

Northern Australia CD

The JERS-1 acquisitions over Australia cover the northern tropical/sub-tropical region. The majority of the JERS-1 acquisitions were performed between October 16 and December 1, 1996. The Global Rain Forest Mapping (GRFM) project is an international project led by the Earth Observation Research & Applications Center of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA EORC) in collaboration with JRC IES/GVM, NASA JPL, ERSDAC, RESTEC, and the ASF.
