Tours of The Alaska Satellite Facility
  Summer Public Tours
During the summer months (June to August) ASF participates in a public tour offered by the Geophysical Institute (GI). The tour happens every Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:30. It starts with an overview on the GI offered by the information office then there is a tour of the ASF control room and hallway with a guide from ASF User Services. After the ASF portion is complete the tour moves upstairs to see the Alaska Earthquake Information Center.

Arranged Tours
The ASF User Services office (USO) can arrange for tours and presentations about ASF and remote sensing to interested groups at any time. USO tailors presentations to the age and interests of the audience. Please contact ASF's User Services at 907-474-6166 or uso@asf.alaska.edu for more information.

  ASF Technical Seminars
The ASF Seminar Series was introduced in 2002 as an internal training tool. Starting in the Fall of 2005, the seminar is being offered as a one credit course including reading assignments, presentation critiques, and discussion. A variety of topics have been covered including:
SAR (basics, processing, applications, etc.)
SAR Interferometry (basics and applications)
Remote Sensing (optical and thermal data)
Digital Image Processing
Geographic Information Systems
For inquiries related to the seminar series, please email Rudi Gens.

SAR Course Offered During UAF Summer Sessions
The University of Alaska Fairbanks offers two courses, SAR: Principles and Applications (GEOS 695, F03), and InSAR: Principles and Applications (GEOS 695, F04)  for credit this summer.  The SAR class is scheduled for June 19-23, and the InSAR class is scheduled for June 26-30.  Students and anyone interested in working with SAR data are encouraged to enroll and gain a better understanding of the following:
Operational SAR satellites amd SAR Sensors
Acquiring, processing, and interpreting SAR data
Ordering data on the EOS data gateway
Geocoding SAR data
Generating a Digital Elevation Model
Processing data sets for your own research application and area of interest
Using the ASF RADARSAT-1 baseline catalog to determine which datasets would best meet your InSAR processing needs
Understanding the advantages and practical limitations of SAR and InSAR
Generating a Digital Elevation Model
Details about the courses are available at the Summer Sessions Schedule. Information from last summers courses can be found at ASF Newsletter from fall 2005 which contains a picture of the class participants from summer 2005 and words from Rudi Gens, the primary professor for the class.
