Data Observation Requests
AADN will accept observation requests from customers, but customers should be aware there is limited opportunity for fulfilling requests as priority is given to a comprehensive pre-launch strategy. The strategy attempts to maximize observation efficiency while considering the needs of all potential ALOS data users.
Important points to note are:
- Requests should be made 4 weeks prior to the cycle in which observation should occur (see: Cycle start table).
- AADN does not currently charge a fee for customers to place a request.
- AADN cannot guarantee that requests will be satisfied.
- The chance of acquiring requested data will be increased if any change to the systematic observation strategy is minimal. If you submit an observation request, it is recommended that the default sensor mode is maintained for the cycle in question. Requests for observations with a non-default sensor mode are likely to be unsuccessful.
If an Observation Request is satisfied the data will be placed in the AADN archive. Should a request for PRISM or AVNIR-2 data be affected by clouds, a new observation request will be required.
Most data observation requests over the AADN region will be down linked by JAXA in Japan. It may take several weeks after acquisition for the data to appear in the AADN archive. Data observation requests outside the AADN region will also take several weeks to appear in the AADN archive.
